Saranac Review Celebrates 12th Issue with Launch Party

SUNY Plattsburgh’s international literary journal, Saranac Review, will celebrate its 12th printing with a launch party Friday, Oct. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Strand Center for the Arts, 23 Brinkerhoff St., Plattsburgh.

“This year, we’re inviting SUNY Plattsburgh alumni to enjoy the readings, music, food, raffle and wine as part of Homecoming 2016 activities,” said Dr. Jose Torres, executive editor and SUNY Plattsburgh English professor. “It goes without saying that the celebration extends to the pleasure and meaningful connection all human beings have to the arts and literary arts in particular.”

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature readings from Myfanwy Collins, SUNY Plattsburgh alumna and author of “The Book of Laney” and “Echolocation.”

The Saranac Review provides hands-on experience for writing arts majors at the college and brings prestige and recognition to the college and region, according to Wendy Truong, English department administrative assistant and P-R and multimedia journalism major.

“As the only international literary journal published in northeastern New York, it is an active participant in the writing arts community and a strong advocate for the crucial function that writing plays in any society that aspires to be truly democratic and free,” she said.
