Karen Becker and Friends to Present 'A Musical Life's Journey'
SUNY Plattsburgh’s Department of Music will present “Karen Becker and Friends: A Musical Life’s Journey” Saturday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature the Adirondack Trio: Karen Becker (piano), Eric Grossman (violin) and Lawrence Zoernig (cello) with guests Marilyn Reynolds (violin) and Sander Sanger (viola).
The Adirondack Trio will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50,” the only work the composer ever wrote for the combination of piano, violin and cello.
“Earlier in my career, this was the first chamber piece with strings that I ever performed,” said Becker.
The Trio is also collaborating with Reynolds and Sanger to bring Elgar’s rarely performed “Piano Quintet” to the stage.
“This piece is memorable to me because it was the finale to my senior recital at the Eastman School of Music,” Becker said.
The program will be rounded out by a solo piece performed by Becker.
