Dr. Jeanne Ryan Named SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. __ Dr. Jeanne Ryan, professor of psychology at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, has been named a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor. The appointment was approved in May by the SUNY Board of Trustees.
The designation, a rank above that of full professor, honors and recognizes outstanding teaching. To earn the designation, recipients must exhibit a consistent record of superior performance in teaching, scholarship and professional growth, exceptional service to students and commitment to their ongoing intellectual growth, and adherence to rigorous academic standards and requirements.
A SUNY Plattsburgh faculty member since 1988, Dr. Ryan was promoted to the rank of professor in 2001. Ryan is a licensed psychologist in the state of New York and specializes in neuropsychology.
"Dr. Ryan is an extraordinarily gifted and effective teacher who truly reaches students of all capabilities and talents," said SUNY Plattsburgh Provost Robert Golden. "Her appointment brings honor on our institution and demonstrates the high level of academic excellence among our faculty."
Ryan also serves as the executive director of the North Country Regional Traumatic Brain Injury Center at SUNY Plattsburgh. Her leadership was instrumental in the development of the Psychology Department's Neuropsychology Clinic and Psychoeducational Services program. Her research with students at the Center has resulted in several awards including the SUNY Chancellor's Research Recognition Award, SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, Presidential Research Awards, and Faculty Leadership Award.
Ryan received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Northeastern University, a master's degree and certificate in advanced studies in school psychology from Alfred University, and a doctoral degree in psychology from SUNY Binghamton. She resides in Peru, NY.
