Fitness Center


Individual Attention & Programs

The Fitness Center is a component of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. Fitness Center staff is comprised of student trainers, supervisors, aerobics, spinning, Zumba, yoga and cardio-kickboxing instructors. They provide individual and group instruction and are available to develop and implement safe and effective personalized programs for members of the campus community.

The mission of the Fitness Center is to implement, provide and facilitate quality fitness-related activities that assist in fostering an outstanding educational experience by enhancing the physical and mental well-being of its participants.

News & Events


Fitness Center relocating due to Memorial Hall Renovations — From Sunday, Oct. 1 – Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Fitness Center in Memorial Hall will be offline as equipment is moved to two satellite locations for the remainder of the fall semester: Algonquin and Hood Hall.

  • Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 11 both Algonquin and Hood Halls will open as temporary fitness spaces.
    Algonquin Hall will retain the normal operating hours of 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. M–F and noon – 5 p.m. on weekends. Hood Hall will be open 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., M–F.
  • Hood Hall will house cardio equipment while Algonquin Hall will house strength and resistance equipment and will remain the site for group exercise classes.
  • The Memorial Hall Fitness Center will reopen when classes resume to start the spring 2024 semester on January 29 with a completely renovated fitness center, all new equipment and expanded group activity space.

Coming 2023–2024 — Memorial Hall Construction Updates

Get ready for a new and improved Memorial Hall Fitness Center with holistic health, fitness and fun in mind. This new community hub will have an improved layout, cardio equipment overlooking the Saranac River, a new climbing wall feature, a spacious aerobics and multi-use studio and a fitness area dedicated to student athletes. Rec Fee Structure

SUNY approved a mandatory Rec (recreation) Fee for eligible students that started Fall 2019. The fee is $85 per semester ($170 academic year) and will appear on the SUNY Plattsburgh tuition bill. Faculty/staff and alumni rates remain unchanged.

Requests for an exemption from this fee must meet certain criteria.

The Fitness Center is a major hub of activity on campus and membership provides access to aerobic and strength training machines, classes and much more.

The Fitness Center is a pay-for-use program available to students, faculty, staff and alumni. Details on all of our programming is available.
