Dr. Laurence Soroka

Professor Emeritus of Expeditionary Studies

Having had the opportunity to develop a new program, Dr. Soroka created Expeditionary Studies as an adventure program distinct from most others, with its emphasis on developing advanced level field skills and decision-making. He served as chair of the department for ten years.

Before retiring, Larry also created a limited residency graduate degree in expeditionary studies for aspiring and working professionals. He taught skiing and paddling courses as well as “The History and Culture of the Expedition,” “Expedition Theory and Planning” and a variety of EXP graduate courses. He maintains his relationship with expeditionary studies as an adjunct professor, teaching on-line courses. A Ph.D. in American Studies, Larry also taught in SUNY Plattsburgh’s English and History departments.
