Global Social Action Certificate

Coursework offered 100% online

This 9-credit program prepares social workers and human service practitioners with a global perspective and rights-based, sustainable approach to respond to, address and ultimately prevent social problems.

What Will I Learn?

Social work is the profession on the front lines of immigration, human rights and international social policy. This certificate will prepare you to work with a diverse population within the United States and abroad.

  • Learn to define, understand and analyze the fundamental inequalities — poverty, ill-health, environmental degradation, lack of social care and human rights violations — that are the root causes for the most critical problems facing humanity.
  • Understand the complex international and multicultural experiences required to effectively serve the needs of various communities.
  • Partner with community-based organizations on a project to address a pressing social development issue or need.

What is Unique About Our Program?

This global social action certificate is the first of its kind in the SUNY system and one of only a handful available in the country. The certificate is based in action and will allow you to practice your skills from home and in an international context in the quest for meaningful social justice and change.

What Are My Career Opportunities?

The current marketplace is looking for social workers and human services practitioners with intercultural experience. In addition, you will be well positioned to enter graduate programs in social work.
