Cardinal Achievement Program

Welcome to the Cardinal Achievement Program!

What is the Cardinal Achievement Program (CAP)?

The Cardinal Achievement Program is designed to help you succeed and ease the transition from high school to college. Students who are enrolled in the Cardinal Achievement Program will take FRS 101 the fall semester of their first year and will be paired with an academic coach. You will meet with your academic coach on a regular basis to assist with your needs. The academic coach will help with a variety of topics including: academic progress, help with course advisement, financial literacy, time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, etc.

Andria Cody

  • Hometown: Manhattan, N.Y.
  • Class: Sophomore
  • Major: Communication Sciences and Disorders

“My first semester in college was a difficult transition for me (finding help when you need it, having good study tips, balancing school and your social life, etc.). It was through academic coaching that I was guided through this process making my first semester a lot less stressful. In addition to academic coaching, freshman seminar helped me with my time management, stress maintenance and more. This class gave me the help I never knew I needed. It is for these reasons that I’m truly grateful for the Cardinal Achievement Program.”

Malik Donadelle

  • Hometown: Bronx, N.Y.
  • Class: Junior
  • Major: TV Video Production and Digital Media Production
  • Minor: Photography

“I was unaware of what my future was going to look like. I went to college not knowing if I will be able to afford it or if I will be able to be successful, but I did go with hope. While entering into the Cardinal Achievement Program at the time, I must say that they were the most supportive group of people anyone can ask for. Entering into college with a bill of over five thousand dollars out of pocket was something no eighteen-year old wanted to think about. But the Stars program worked together as a team to help me achieve my goals and help me with my financial situation because they understand that everyone doesn’t have the luxury to have a college education. With that being said, I am forever grateful for the people that I have met and for this choice in my life because without it, I don’t know where I will be.”

Christopher Daniel West

  • Hometown: Long Island, N.Y.
  • Class: Junior
  • Major: Criminal Justice

“The Cardinal Achievement Program here at SUNY Plattsburgh has been nothing but beneficial for me so far. Finding out that I was placed in the program as a first semester freshman had me thinking that I wasn’t academically fit enough for college level courses, but that wasn’t necessarily true. The supporting staff (specifically Isaac Eshun) helped me choose classes that best fit my academic level in order to get my college experience started off on the right foot. Thanks to the Cardinal Achievement Program and Student Support Services I am now exceeding my academic goals as I work to wrap up my junior year.”

Olivia Grande

  • Hometown: Long Island, N.Y.
  • Class: Sophomore
  • Major: Political Science

“Coming to Plattsburgh, I knew that I had to prove something to myself. From the beginning, I knew that I would have to be able to branch out and meet new people. I had to jump outside of my comfort zone and make the most of the next four years of my life. Let me tell you it wasn’t all that easy, there were many challenges that I faced both personally and mentally. Although I’m only a sophomore, there is one thing that has been by my side the past two years, CAP! This program not only gave me reassurance to know that I was capable of doing anything I put my mind to, but they were there to listen to me when I just needed another opinion. While being a part of the Cardinal Achievement Program, I had the great pleasure of meeting someone I now refer to as my mentor, Mr. Isaac Eshun. Not only has Mr. Isaac Eshun been a professor of mine but now a great friend! He has always instilled confidence and reassurance in me as I began to doubt my ability to succeed. Through positive affirmations and many ‘pep talks,’ I am now doing exactly what I knew I was capable of doing. The Cardinal Achievement Program has a group of professionals who genuinely care about your education, well-being, and academic success as you reach this campus. Count yourself amongst the lucky ones to be part of this program.”

Kathleen Watt

  • Hometown: Albany, N.Y
  • Class: Sophomore
  • Majors: Human Development Family Relations and Social Work

”The Cardinal Achievement Program has been a great asset to my college life. Starting as a freshman, they helped me adapt to college life very quickly and make the necessary adjustments to succeed here at SUNY Plattsburgh. These adjustments included time management, organization, and of course guidance through it all. They not only helped me see what was possible and reach for my goals, but helped me strive for more than I thought I was capable of. Without the help of the Cardinal Achievement Program, I truly do not think I would have accomplished all that I have so far. I am very grateful to have a department like them on campus, they are truly a vital part of my college career.”
