Vocal Recitals Planned for Krinovitz Stage April 15

The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music will present two senior vocal recitals Sunday, April 15 in the Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

Kendall Joseph will perform music ranging from the classic period to the 20th century, featuring works by composers Vincenzo Bellini, Gabriel Faure, Johannes Brahms, Franz Shubert and Samuel Barber. He will be accompanied by Dr. Jun Matsuo, adjunct lecturer in music, on the piano, beginning at 2 p.m.

“Preparing for my recital has been an amazing experience,” Joseph said. “On top of learning to sing in four different languages, I have also focused on the theatrical side of my repertoire. I hope to take my audience on an aural and visual journey through topics of love, life and death.”

Zuwena James will perform vocal works of American gospel, contemporary pop, musical theater and Trinibagonian jamoo music beginning at 4:30 p.m. and will be accompanied my Matsuo, Dr. Dexter Criss, associate professor of chemistry, and student Michael Hudlin on piano, and student Henry Steng on guitar.

“The opportunity to perform genres of music that, in my opinion, are all filled with moving and rich lyrics, is exciting for me,” James said. “These songwriters are known to place heavy meaning in their songwriting, and I am ecstatic to perform my interpretations of them.”

The recitals are free and open to the public.
