Update: Myers Fine Arts Building May Be Closed Until Monday
SUNY Plattsburgh's Myers Fine Arts Building remains closed today, Thursday, March 17, although construction work on its high-temperature, hot water lines is complete.
College officials want to verify the safety of the building before it reopens. As a result, an outside environmental air-quality monitoring firm will conduct tests on the space, in the hope of having the building fully back in operation by Monday, March 21, the first day of classes after the college’s spring break.
College officials closed the building Monday when an employee reported smelling fumes. After an investigation, officials have determined that the cause may have been associated with the insulation system for the building’s high-temperature, hot water lines.
College faculty and staff who need to enter the building may do so between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, but they must first contact Michael Caraballo, SUNY Plattsburgh’s emergency management director at 518-564-4950.
Employees who need to make alternative work arrangements are asked to do so in consultation with their supervisor and Human Resource Services.
