Governor Appoints Brooks to SUNY Plattsburgh University Council

Gov. Kathy Hochul has appointed Tracey Brooks, chief executive officer of Whiteface Companies, to the SUNY Plattsburgh University Council.
Brooks brings more than two decades of leadership experience spanning business, public policy, healthcare advocacy, government relations and nonprofit governance. Her background in strategic planning, organizational management, stakeholder engagement and board leadership provides a broad perspective that aligns with the University Council's role in supporting SUNY Plattsburgh's long-term success and service to the North Country.
A Lake Placid resident, Brooks has served as CEO of Whiteface Companies since May 2025 after serving as chief operating officer beginning in 2024. She leads the five entities comprising Whiteface Companies, including Whiteface Club & Resort, Whiteface Real Estate and Development, and The Adirondack Café, overseeing strategic planning, operations, business development and organizational growth.
Prior to joining Whiteface Companies, Brooks served as general counsel and partner with Shenker, Russo & Clark LLP in Albany from 2018 to 2024, where she led the firm's healthcare practice and advised clients on healthcare policy, governmental relations, legislative strategy and regulatory compliance. Earlier in her career, she was a partner with Featherstonhaugh, Wiley & Clyne LLP and served as president and CEO of Family Planning Advocates of New York State and Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York State.
Brooks also served as regional director for U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, working with elected officials, businesses, healthcare organizations, educational institutions and community leaders throughout New York's Capital Region and Hudson Valley. She later served as counsel to the New York State Assembly Justice Team, focusing on judiciary and public policy matters.
She earned her juris doctor from Albany Law School and her bachelor's degree in sociology from Le Moyne College. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2001.
Her community service includes leadership roles with numerous nonprofit and educational organizations, including Albany Pro Musica, the Government Law Center Advisory Board, the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee and the Tech Valley High School Foundation Board.
Brooks' term on the University Council runs through June 30, 2030.
“I am thrilled to join the University Council, with dear friends, community leaders and alumni. Being chosen to assist in the stewardship of the University, working with students to retain a qualified and trained workforce in the North Country, and maintain a strong public education provides me the ability to use the skills and relationships I have honed in my career. I am so pleased to be asked to do so,” said Brooks.
The University Council serves as SUNY Plattsburgh's local governing body, providing guidance and support on matters related to the university's mission, strategic priorities and service to the region.
