SUNY Plattsburgh Sport and Wellness Students Win Scholar Awards


Four SUNY Plattsburgh sport and wellness leadership undergraduates won scholar awards for their research projects, which they presented at the Greater New York American College of Sports Medicine conference Saturday, Nov. 11.

Kimberly Beach and John Purcell, seniors and ACSM-certified personal trainers, presented “What Experiences Are Needed to Become a Division III thlete? A Retrospective Study of the Quantity of Deliberate Play.” The two won 4th place and a $200 check. 

Jordynne Ales and Forrest Scott, also seniors and ACSM-certified personal trainers, presented their study, “The ‘Unregulated’ World of Collegiate Strength and Conditioning: Are CSCCa Coaches the Most Effective?” The pair took 5th place and received $50.

All four students were under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Andreas Stamatis, assistant professor of sport and wellness.
