SUNY Plattsburgh Ranked 'Best for Vets'
Military Times ranked SUNY Plattsburgh among its top 100 “Best for Vets: Colleges 2015” for the second consecutive year among four-year colleges in the country.
Plattsburgh moved up from 77th to 70th in the armed forces publication published by Gannett Government Media. According to Military Times, the rankings factor in the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates.
“We factor in what is, to our knowledge, the most detailed school-by-school data on veteran students’ academic success anywhere, including graduation, retention, persistence and course completion rates,” said Amanda Miller, editor of Best for Vets. “By recognizing only the schools that do the most, we believe we’re helping to raise the bar in veteran student services.”
In its congratulations letter sent to Tracey Guynup, student veterans support coordinator at SUNY Plattsburgh, Miller said, “The Military Times Best for Vets distinction recognizes your school for its commitment to providing opportunities to America’s veterans.”
“I am very pleased to see SUNY Plattsburgh has gotten this designation again this year and has even moved up the list,” Guynup said. “It’s great to have received this recognition along with being named to G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Schools 2015 list earlier this fall. Personally, it means that we are giving the proper support to our student veterans and their families at SUNY Plattsburgh.”
Inclusion in the Military Friendly Schools list compiled by Victory Media is the college’s second time in as many years. The list honors the 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools doing the most to support America’s military service members and ensure their success on campus.
