SUNY Plattsburgh Partners in State’s Launch of Free App Weeks

Prospective SUNY Plattsburgh students can take advantage of the State University of New York’s Free App Weeks Oct. 20 through Nov. 3, saving application fees for up to five SUNY schools.

college night file photoThe Free App Weeks program, now in its third year, was created to give families a break during college application time by waiving fees to SUNY schools during the last two weeks of October. Students can apply using either the ApplySUNY application or the Common App, for a savings of up to $250. Applicants need no special code, but applications must be submitted to up to five SUNY schools — such as SUNY Plattsburgh — during the free application period.

To take advantage of the cost savings, students can either:

  • Apply using the SUNY app and when you arrive at the payment page, it will show the first five schools’ fees waived
  • Using the Common App, students need to apply campus by campus. On each SUNY school’s member page, there will be a question that says: “It is free application week with the State University of New York through Nov. 3. Would you like SUNY to pay your application fee?” You can choose “yes” up to five times.

file photo viewbookApplications submitted prior to Oct. 20 or after Nov. 3 will not be fee-free; fees outside those two weeks will not be reimbursed. However, SUNY offers ongoing fee waivers to 60 percent of all high school seniors in New York state.

Students in foster care, with military connections, low-income students, and those at 500\-plus designated high schools in the state can apply to up to seven SUNY campuses for free, a savings of up to $350 any time during the year. For eligibility criteria, click here.

Graduate applications do not qualify for Fee App Weeks 2025.
