SUNY Plattsburgh Hosts First Responders for Mass Casualty Training Exercise

SUNY Plattsburgh, in conjunction with UVM Health Network at CVPH, will host a first responder mass casualty training exercise at the Plattsburgh State Field House Thursday, May 23.

Field house property will be closed to the public during training from 7 a.m. to noon May 23. Visitors and bystanders are being advised to avoid the Rugar Street area during that time since there will be a significant presence of emergency vehicles and personnel engaged in simulated emergency scenarios.

Designed to enhance readiness and coordinator of area emergency response agencies in the face of a potential mass casualty incident, participating agencies include:

  • SUNY Plattsburgh of Emergency Management
  • New York State University Police
  • New York State Police
  • New York State Department of Homeland Security Emergency Services
  • Plattsburgh City Police
  • Plattsburgh Fire Department
  • Clinton County Office of Emergency Management
  • UVM Health Network at CVPH
  • FBI
  • Immigration and Customs Enforcement
  • S. Border Patrol
  • Clinton County Sheriff’s Department
  • Morrisonville EMS

Throughout the exercise, participating first responders will operate on designated emergency radio frequencies to simulate real-world communication procedures during crisis situations. Organizers said it’s important to emphasize that this event is solely a training exercise and not a response to any actual emergency.

Michael Caraballo, director of SUNY Plattsburgh emergency management, emphasized SUNY Plattsburgh’s commitment “to ensuring the safety and preparedness of its community and the broader region in collaboration with local, state, and federal emergency response partners.”
