SUNY Plattsburgh, Adirondack Dual Admissions Agreement Builds Bridge to Four-Year Degrees
Students at SUNY Adirondack can seamlessly complete a bachelor’s degree without leaving their Queensbury campus thanks to a dual admissions agreement between the community college and SUNY Plattsburgh.
Through the university’s branch campus location at Adirondack, students can transfer with fewer fees and no transfer application.
"SUNY Adirondack and SUNY Plattsburgh have long shared a rich history and strong partnership that dates back to the 1990s,” said Emma Volks, director of the SUNY Plattsburgh Queensbury campus. “Beginning with graduate courses and later undergraduate completion programs, students were able to stay on campus to complete a bachelor's degree close to home.”
Last April, SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Adirondack signed a dual admissions agreement for students who want to continue their education after earning their associate degree.
‘Dismantles Barriers’
Volks said the dual admissions agreement dismantles barriers to success.
“SUNY Adirondack students no longer have to complete an application to transfer to SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury, request transcripts, or pay any application or transcript fees taking the guesswork out of the transfer process and freeing up more time and money to focus on studies, work, and home life," she said.
The process is simple. Students opt in to dual admission with SUNY Plattsburgh at
Queensbury when they apply to SUNY Adirondack. In their final semester at SUNY Adirondack,
students complete SUNY Plattsburgh’s quick-intent-to-enroll form to transfer seamlessly.
Even better, students who did not originally opt into dual admission when they first
applied to SUNY Adirondack can opt in later with SUNY Plattsburgh at any time, Volks
said.
“Often academic journeys shift along the way and include a change of major or new career goals. We designed dual admission to be flexible and inclusive of all students, regardless of where they are in the application process.”
Students can transfer from many associate programs at SUNY Adirondack. SUNY Plattsburgh Queensbury campus offers bachelor's degree completion programs in:
- Computer security
- Criminal justice
- Human development and family relations
- Psychology
Dual admission between both schools celebrates two colleges on one campus, enabling students to complete their four-year degree closer to home, Volks said.
“SUNY Plattsburgh’s Queensbury campus is convenient for working adults and offers
a close-knit learning environment alongside top-of-field faculty and hands-on, real-world
learning opportunities embedded into every major.”
SUNY Adirondack and SUNY Plattsburgh’s Queensbury campus were recently lauded for their dual admissions partnership, presenting in SUNY Center for Professional Development’s webinar series for campus best practices for student success.
Jessica Contompasis ’25, said it was the bridge between the two colleges and the support she received that led to her earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology.
“With the small classes that the Plattsburgh branch campus has to offer, I feel like it was super easy for me to be able to talk to the right people, make sure I was making the right choices and the right steps to get where I needed to go.”
Contompasis said she hopes to continue her education online at SUNY Plattsburgh to pursue a master’s degree in social work.
