Students, Staff Launch Give a Buck Campaign
Public relations students working with the Office of Institutional Advancement at SUNY Plattsburgh are asking current students to give a buck.
As part of a new student awareness campaign called Give a Buck, the PR students are distributing Burghy Bucks around campus. Slips of paper that resemble dollar bills, Burghy Bucks give students the chance to pick one program from a list of designations to receive a $5,000 gift from alumnus Richard Pfadenhauer, a 1985 graduate. The 16 designations are programs subsidized by the Plattsburgh College Foundation and include scholarships, academic departments, athletic teams, Project H.E.L.P and Career Services.
To distribute the Burghy Bucks, the PR students, known as the “guerilla marketers,” meet with clubs and organizations individually. They discuss the Plattsburgh College Foundation and capture a photo of the groups with their completed Burghy Bucks — and Burghy himself.
After six meetings with clubs and only one day of staffing a table in the Angell College Center, more than 300 Burghy Bucks had been collected. The campaign will continue through April and culminate with an announcement of the winning program at the Student Association’s Spring Carnival on May 6.
