Student-run Radio Station Now Streaming Online
SUNY Plattsburgh’s FM radio station, WQKE 93.9, is now streaming online, allowing alumni, family and friends of the college to hear student-produced programming and adult alternative music from the station’s website no matter where they are in the world.
The college’s FM station provides students the opportunity to host music and talk shows, broadcast sporting events or deliver the news. The station’s general manager, senior audio radio production major Rae Cunningham, launched the station’s online venture in an online radio launch party Nov. 8 at the Angell College Center where the station is based.
“Everyone at WQKE is extremely excited to be online,” Cunningham said. “I feel it’s given us the opportunity to significantly increase our audience. It’s a great feeling to know that friends and family back in our hometowns can now listen to the shows that we all put so much effort into. Friends and families of SUNY Plattsburgh athletes now have the opportunity to share the games with the players via the many sporting events that we broadcast.”
Cunningham said that alumni from the radio station can tune in to hear what current DJs are doing at the station.
“I look forward to doing so after I graduate in May,” she said. “It also gives us the ability to go above and beyond our mission statement, which is to provide Plattsburgh with alternative music and talk programs. Now we can go beyond Plattsburgh, New York state, and even beyond the United States. Anyone who wants to tune in just has to go to our website.”
