Student Magazine Receives Third All-American Rating, Marks of Distinction
DoNorth: Touring the Adirondack Coast, a print magazine produced by SUNY Plattsburgh journalism students, earned an All-American rating from the Associated Collegiate Press.
The All-American honor, the ACP’s highest ranking, recognizes DoNorth for its Winter/Spring 2016 issue.
DoNorth: Touring the Adirondack Coast focuses on tourism in Clinton County and the surrounding region and is the official in-flight magazine on PenAir’s Plattsburgh-Boston route. The twice-yearly publication is also distributed at various Clinton County establishments and has more than 1,000 home subscribers. DoNorth is funded by Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau and SUNY Plattsburgh’s Department of Journalism and Public Relations.
This award marks DoNorth’s third All-American designation in its four years of existence. The Winter/Spring 2016 issue, released in December, received a final score of 525 points, exceeding the standard of 450. The ACP awarded DoNorth marks of distinction in four categories: Content; Photography, Art, Graphics and Typography; Layout; and Concept. Judge Vince Filak applauded the wide array of stories encompassing the DoNorth theme and praised the magazine for its photography and design, as well the imagery in a feature on ice climbing that he said put him “right in the middle of the action.”
DoNorth’s all-student staff was led by Editor-in-Chief Winta Matteous Mebrahti, Managing Editor Samantha Godino, Deputy Editor Christian Burek, Art Director Nelly Gomez and Photo Editors Alex Ayala and Jessica Huber. The SUNY Plattsburgh faculty adviser for DoNorth is Luke Cyphers.
