The SUNY Plattsburgh music and theater departments will present several productions in the coming weeks, starting with the play, “I and You,” Thursday, Oct. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 25 in the Black Box Studio, Myers Fine Arts Building.

“I and You,” a play by Lauren Gunderson, tells the story of chronically ill Caroline and athletic star Anthony — two strangers in the same class who are paired for a presentation on Walt Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass,” which leads to an understanding of just how much they truly complement each other.

Directed by special guest and SUNY Plattsburgh alum, Tim Wagoner, performances are Oct. 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. Tickets are $12 general admission, $5 for members of the Student Association, and are available at https://campusgroups.plattsburgh.edu/themus/events/, and for cash-only purchase day of show at the Myers box office.

Evening of Acapella

On Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m., in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall, the music department will present, “An Acapella Showcase,” featuring a lineup of groups that include Minor Adjustments, Sweet Adelines, Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir, and the Plattsburgh City School District groups, Encore and Fermata Nowhere.

Ensembles will perform an assortment of musical styles, including pop, rock, gospel and barbershop.

Produced by Pamela Lavin, adjunct lecturer in music, the showcase features singers from middle school to senior citizens. The evening event is free and open to the public.

A Cat, a Dog, and a Rabbit

The theater department will turn to younger audience members with its fall production.

shawnaDirector Shawna Mefferd Kelty, professor in theater, will bring “Bunnicula” to the Hartman Theatre stage for two matinee performances Saturday, Nov. 15 and Sunday, Nov. 16, both days at 2 p.m.

The young-audience play by Jon Klein based on the novel by James and Deborah Howe with music by Chris Jefferies, and tells the story of the Monroe family, which adds a rabbit to its home that also includes cat, Chester, and dog, Harold.

When the family’s produce starts losing its juice, naturally Chester concludes there’s a vampire in the house and immediately suspects the new addition to the household. This mystery of fruitarian proportions is filled with singing, dancing and talking pets.

Tickets are $12 general admission and $5 SA members. Family tickets are $10 with a minimum of three ticket purchase at this rate. Tickets are available online at https://campusgroups.plattsburgh.edu/themus/events/, for cash-only purchase day of show at the Myers box office.
