State Flags to Fly at Half-Staff for Fallen Army Officer
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered that flags on state buildings, including SUNY Plattsburgh, be flown at half-staff Thursday, Aug. 7, in honor of U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Harold Greene, who died Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Afghanistan.
"It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of Maj. Gen. Harold Green," Cuomo said. "Maj. Gen. Greene was an Albany (N.Y.) native who earned his commission as an engineer officer shortly after graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and he dedicated more than 30 years of his life in service to his country.
"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I offer my thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Maj. Gen. Greene. We will never forget his sacrifice, and we will honor his service with pride."
