Spring Open House Welcomes Students, Families


PLATTSBURGH, NY __ For more than 25 years, the Office of Admissions at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh has hosted Spring Open House. This year's Open House on Saturday, April 22 is not just for accepted high school seniors -- students invited also include prospective high school juniors and transfer students. Approximately 1,000 individuals will be attending the Open House.

Spring Open House is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. after registration and refreshments. The general information session will be held in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall where guests will be welcomed by President John Ettling, Student Association Executive Vice President Kim Garrison, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs William Laundry and Admissions Advisor Carrie Woodward.

Following this session, currently enrolled SUNY Plattsburgh students will lead small-group tours so that prospective students and families can see everything Plattsburgh State has to offer, including residence halls, academic buildings and the fitness center. The groups will finish the tour at the Angell College Center where an undergraduate academic fair and student services fair will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the undergraduate academic fair, prospective students will the opportunity to meet with faculty from all academic majors and minors available at Plattsburgh State. Representatives from the Student Association will also be on hand to answer any questions. The student services fair will feature representatives from various offices on campus, including campus housing and residence life, career services, transfer services, financial aid, student health center, study abroad, dining services and college athletics.

Richard Higgins, associate vice president for enrollment management and director of admissions, said, "The most important component of each open house is the opportunity to talk directly to enrolled students, student services staff members and the faculty. Thereby allowing prospective students to discern whether SUNY Plattsburgh is the best 'fit' for their college destination."
