Spring Instant Decision Days for Transfer Students Set at Area Community Colleges

The second series of Instant Decision Days for area community college students looking to transfer is on the calendar for the spring semester.

New last fall, Instant Decision Days are day-long events held at the four community colleges in close proximity to SUNY Plattsburgh or its branch campus in Queensbury. There, enrolled students considering transferring to SUNY Plattsburgh can find out within 20 minutes if their application is complete. 

This is an important step taken by the college’s admissions office in its mission to reduce barriers to enrollment, according to Carrie Woodward, director of admissions at SUNY Plattsburgh. About 40 percent of all new students who enrolled at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2017 were transfers. Through Instant Decision Days, the college partners with Clinton Community College, SUNY Adirondack, Hudson Valley Community College and North Country Community College to offer students direct access to advisers who review applications and complete their credit evaluations on site. They can also answer in real time the three most-oft asked questions

•What is needed to complete the application?

•Are all credits transferable?

•How long will it take to finish the degree?

More than half the college’s transfer students come from one of the four area community colleges. These events serve those students well because it eliminates the need for students to travel to the Plattsburgh campus to have a face-to-face meeting with a transfer adviser. The process is more streamlined and efficient. Students can get done in a day what sometimes takes weeks of communicating by phone or email.

To participate, students register online and a member of the admissions office will reach out ahead of time to ensure they submit everything needed for a decision and credit evaluation during the event.

Instant Decision Days for Spring 2018 include:

•Clinton Community College, Feb. 27, March 22, and April 17

•SUNY Adirondack, Feb. 28, March 20, and April 18

•Hudson Valley Community College, March 1, March 21, and April 19

•North Country Community College, March 27

All sessions are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
