Sodexho at SUNY Plattsburgh Celebrates Annual "Servathon" April 4-8

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Sodexho Campus Services at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh has challenged its employees and the campus community to work together in the fight against hunger through its annual Servathon April 4 - 8 under the theme "Stop Hunger: Making a Difference."

This year, participants in the program will be collecting food for the Interfaith Food Shelf. As part of the food drive, there will be two competitions - one among the residence halls and another among campus offices - for the group who raises the highest monetary value in food.  The residence hall that raises the highest monetary value in food will receive $50 worth of food. Residence halls in second and third place will receive $25 and $15 worth of food, respectively. The winning campus office will receive a catered lunch from Sodexho.

The second part of the Servathon will be a raffle to raise funds for the Trinity Community Meal Center. The center does not receive grants and relies on funds from initiatives such as this to survive. The Sodexho employee who sells the most raffle tickets will receive a free dinner and two movie passes. Prizes for the winners of the raffle will be donated by local businesses. The raffle ticket sale will be held on Thursday, April 7.

Amy Rascoe, unit clerk in Clinton Dining Hall and the Servathon chairperson, said the program, which started three years ago, has a dual goal.

"The Servathon helps our community by giving back to those in need," said Rascoe. "It also helps build team spirit among those who are participating in the program around the campus and in the community."

According to Rascoe, the program has been very successful since it started.

"The campus and community response has been nothing short of amazing," she said. "People really want to help, and it gives them a great feeling to know that they are making a difference. Last year, we exceeded the funds raised in the previous year by more than $1,000. I am excited to see what will happen this year."

Some of the events and programs planned for this year's Servathon include the "Have a Heart" sale on Monday, April 4. Paper hearts will be sold for $1 each at all Sodexho facilities and will be displayed in the dining areas. Later that evening, the Sodexho staff will help prepare and serve dinner at St. Peter's Soup Kitchen.
The food drive will kick off Tuesday, April 5. Offices and residence halls can arrange for pick up by calling 546-4093. The deadline for receiving items for the food drive is Monday, April 11.

On Wednesday, April 6, the staff will help prepare and serve dinner at Trinity Community Meal Center.

Friday, April 8 will be "Buy a Jean Day." To benefit Trinity Community Meal Center, Sodexho employees can donate $5 in order to wear jeans to work. A free t-shirt will be given to all Sodexho employees who participate in Jean Day. Other offices are encouraged to participate in their own Jean Day.
