Site Selected for Construction Project
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2009) -- The location has been chosen for a new academic
building that will house SUNY Plattsburgh's School of Business and Economics as well
as its Computer Science faculty.
Funded through the State University of New York's Five-Year Capital Budget, the building
will be located on the corner of Draper Avenue and Cornelia Street, northwest of Hawkins
Hall. In addition to housing faculty offices, it will contain general purpose classrooms,
labs and special project space.
"The site was selected for its proximity to Hawkins Hall, where many business and
computer science classes are currently held; for the ease of access to utilities;
and to preserve a ‘balance' of space utilization across our physical plant," said
SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling, adding that, in addition to all of these
factors, the costs to prepare this site for construction were the lowest.
Construction is expected to start in 2011 at the earliest and will take around 24
months to complete.
