Samuel D's Set to Open for the Spring Semester

PLATTSBURGH, NY __With a semester of operation behind it, Samuel D's is ready to begin serving up another delicious semester.

Student Chefs in front of Samuel D's The restaurant facility in Sibley Hall, which is run by students in the hotel, restaurant and tourism management program at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, serves daily morning takeout including Starbuck's coffee and a lunch and dinner once a week.

"Our first semester was much better than we could have expected," said Kimberly Emery, a 2000 SUNY Plattsburgh graduate and facility manager, chef and instructor. "The students were superb. By the end of the semester, Samuel D's was very popular, customers liked the value and the fact that they get to meet the students."

Emery said that the facility has proven to be an excellent training ground for the HRTM students.

"The students, faculty and staff are still as excited about the facility as the first day we opened," she said. "In our first semester, we learned a lot, and we will keep working to make the most of this wonderful facility we have."

There will be some changes implemented from feedback the students and faculty received from last semester. The menu will be more diversified, and there's a chance the restaurant will add weekly specials, according to Emery.

Something new for this semester will be a networking hour every Wednesday (starting on Feb. 16) from 4 to 6 p.m.
"This will be a great opportunity for faculty to gather after work for a drink and snacks," said Emery.

She also said that the faculty and students are looking forward to Samuel D's second semester.

"We are very appreciative of everyone that dined with us last semester, and we hope to see them again," said Emery. "I hope that people will consider us their first option when having lunch on Tuesday or dining out on a Thursday evening."
