SAGE Honors Local Faculty Member
A SUNY Plattsburgh faculty member was recently awarded the 2014 SAGE Junior Faculty Professional Development Teaching Award.
Dr. Sharon Melzer, assistant professor of criminal justice, was one of only 10 professionals from around the country to receive the honor in Philadelphia last month.
Along with the award, she received a travel stipend to attend the 51st annual Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Professional Development Teaching Workshop, where she and the other winners were honored at a reception.
The 10 winners were selected from a pool of 68 teachers from associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degree-granting institutions, who received a graduate degree within the last five years.
Created to recognize new faculty in the criminal justice and criminology disciplines, the award allows professionals in the field to attend the five-day conference to learn and discuss teaching and research practices. It is funded by an annual donation from SAGE as well as from royalties donated by participating SAGE authors.
SAGE is a publisher of journals, books and electronic media for academic, educational and professional markets.
