SUNY Plattsburgh Student Association - Students Supporting Students

Students Serving Students

The Student Association supports the varied Alternative Spring Break activities, tutors in the Claude Clark Learning Center, Late Night events on Saturday and Sunday Night at the Movies, now being held in the Warren Ballrooms of the College Center. With an operating budget of nearly $1 million, the SUNY Plattsburgh Student Association is a force to be reckoned with on campus and one to be taken advantage of according to its president. "Each student pays a mandatory SA fee that supports more than 80 clubs and organizations, activities and services," said Michael Cashman '03, second-term SA president. "(Because of that fee), students can take advantage of our $50-loan program, which we say is just enough to get you by but not get you in trouble. They have available the SA shuttle that will take them to the mall, the grocery store, Wal-Mart, seven days a week."Students can participate in any one of the organizations and activities sponsored by the SA, "but if you don't find something you're interested in, come into the SA office (in the Angell College Center) and establish a new club or organization," Cashman said.New to the Student Association is how the fee is assessed."We've rationalized our SA fee," Cashman said. "As students come in, the fee they pay is frozen for the four years they are here, meaning it won't be raised in those four years. We're the first in the state to do this. Because it's a mandatory fee, we want our students to make the most of it. Our motto is 'Students Serving Students, and we look forward to helping our students make the most of their collegiate experience."
