Rugar Street traffic pattern altered for move-in day

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Aug. 18, 2009) - To ease congestion on Rugar Street as college students move into dormitories there, traffic flow will be one way from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 22.The one-way traffic pattern will help keep the students and their families safe as they move their clothes, furnishings and belongings into their residence hall rooms, the majority of which are located in a four-block stretch of the city street.

Motorists traveling along Rugar Street, between Memorial Hall and the Sanborn Avenue Extension, will only be able to travel in a westerly direction toward Plattsburgh High School. Those traveling on the Sanborn Avenue Extension, directly behind the college, will be permitted to drive in one direction only, from Rugar Street to Park Street.

Anyone traveling in an easterly direction along Rugar Street (toward Lake Champlain) will find the street closed at the intersection with Sanborn Avenue Extension. They will be diverted along the Sanborn Extension to Park Street, Draper Avenue and then onto Broad Street.

Rugar Street may still be congested at times that Saturday, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around SUNY Plattsburgh.

Students wishing to check into the residence halls may do so from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23. They should report to the appropriate hall office to register.

Students who do not know their assignments or who plan to check in after Sunday should report to the Housing and Residence Life Office in Room 103 of Algonquin Hall.

The office is open Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23, and Monday through Friday thereafter from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phone number is 518-564-3824.

Classes at the college officially begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24.
