Rugar Street Limited to One-Way Traffic on Saturday, Aug. 23
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Aug. 15, 2008) - Saturday, Aug. 23 marks the opening of the residence halls at SUNY Plattsburgh. To ease the congestion along the roadway where most of the dorms are located, Rugar Street will become a one-way from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Motorists traveling along Rugar, between Memorial Hall and the Sanborn Avenue Extension, will only be able to travel in a westerly direction toward the Plattsburgh Senior High School. Those traveling on the Sanborn Avenue Extension, directly behind the college, will only be able to go one-way from Rugar Street to Park Street.
The one-way traffic pattern alleviates some of the traffic along the roadway and protects students and their families as they move their clothes, furnishings and belongings into their residence hall rooms.
Anyone traveling in an easterly direction along Rugar Street (toward Lake Champlain) will find the street closed at the intersection with Sanborn Avenue Extension. They will be diverted along Sanborn to Park Street, Draper Avenue and then onto Broad Street.
Rugar Street may be congested at times on that Saturday, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around SUNY Plattsburgh.
Classes at the college officially begin on Monday, Aug. 25.
