Relay to Feature Disney Theme
SUNY Plattsburgh’s seventh annual Relay for Life will feature a Disney theme with participants dressed like their favorite movie characters from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.
The relay is a great a way to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost and fight for a cure, said Ashley Culbertson, president of Colleges Against Cancer.
“This event is just not for college students, faculty and staff. It is also for community members,” she added.
Joan Sterling, the American Cancer Society professional who has overseen the event for the past seven years, said the support from Plattsburgh increases every year.
“Every year, we raise more money, and we get more students involved,” she said.
This year, the campus’s goal is to raise $60,000 toward cancer research and programs. Last year, the campus raised around $53,000.
At the event, there will be food, games and entertainment. In addition, there will a photo booth and dunk tank with proceeds going to the cause.
Participants who raise $100 will receive a free T-shirt and entry to an iPad raffle. For every $50 afterward, they will receive another chance to win the drawing.
