Plattsburgh State Fraternities and Sororities to Host Hospital Fundraisers

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Fraternities and sororities at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh have two upcoming events to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as part of their eighth annual "A Week to GIVE (Greeks Interacting and Volunteering Everyday)" celebrations.

Individuals attending the Plattsburgh State Men's Ice Hockey game against Elmira on Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Field House will have the opportunity to "chuck-a-puck" to win a cash prize. During the second intermission, hockey fans will be able to "chuck-a-puck" -- throw a foam puck onto the ice. The puck that comes closest to the middle circle on the rink will win. These numbered pucks will be available for purchase - 1 chance for $1 or 5 chances for $3. All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Hospital.

Fraternities and sororities at SUNY Plattsburgh will also host "Up 'Til Dawn" on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.

"Up 'Til Dawn" is a student-led, student-run program hosted by colleges and universities nationwide to support St. Jude. Many local children and doctors benefit from the research and treatment programs developed at the children's hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The event at SUNY Plattsburgh is being coordinated by the Greek organizations.

"Up 'Til Dawn" is a letter-writing campaign that occurs on a night of fun-filled activities, music, food and entertainment, including sumo wrestling, medieval jousting and various games. Teams of students, faculty and administrators will address letters to friends and family asking them to make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Throughout the night, contests will be held for participants, giving them a chance to receive prizes, including a video iPod.

SUNY Plattsburgh fraternities and sororities, athletic teams, multicultural organizations, residence hall councils, student association clubs and organizations and other student groups have signed up to participate.
