New College Website Focused on Future Students
SUNY Plattsburgh will launch a new website July 1, a robust online presence focused
on meeting the needs of today’s digital marketplace.
In identifying the need for a comprehensive redesign of the website, campus leaders also integrated a new content management system and other features into the project.
“Our new site expands on existing audience-focused strategies, which are grounded in best-practice and current research, said Catherine Keleher, director of marketing. “It is focused on the needs of target audiences and ultimately aims to improve our ability to enroll right-fit students.”
The new site is geared specifically toward prospective students and their families, providing the information they seek in an easily accessible way to assist them in their college search, Keleher said.
“Web pages have been reorganized and rewritten to quickly provide insight into the SUNY Plattsburgh experience. We also recognize that prospective students are not the only visitors to our site, and so we’ve provided helpful pages and sections for current students, faculty, staff, alumni and the Plattsburgh community.”
New Features
A number of new features are included in the new site, including a mobile-responsive design and a program search tool, allowing students to explore our academic programs by interest or desired job title and comparing degrees based on cost, time to graduation and other relevant information.
“We’ve also added a community page to provide helpful links and information to community members when they engage with the college,” she said.
“We continue the practice of using valid research to determine the needs of prospective students and families and will use this research to develop our website. We also continue in our commitment to providing timely and relevant information to the public. You can easily find our list of academic programs, tuition costs, athletic information, a robust news and events section and more,” she said.
College websites are a main source of information used by prospective students and their families in their search process. It’s the terrain they travel as they decide which college has the best ability to meet their specific needs and therefore offers the highest value for their investment.
Change with the Times
The site will be organic, Keleher said, evolving along the way as technology and best practices change.
“Our job is never quite done, and you may see new features or changes as time goes on,” she said.
Although the main navigation bar will look different, the new site was designed using best practices to ensure ease of use.
“The focus of the new site will be telling the SUNY Plattsburgh story, featuring students and their families, underscoring the reasons why a SUNY Plattsburgh education is of high value,” Keleher said.
