Free Enterprise Marathon Winners Announced


SUNY Plattsburgh has announced the winners of the second annual Free Enterprise Marathon in the Angell College Center, which took place March 7.

In addition to SUNY Plattsburgh, the marathon involved student participants from Clarkson University, SUNY Canton, University of Vermont, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Adirondack, Norwich University, Clinton Community College, St. Michael’s College and Southern Vermont College.

In the speak-off competition, presenters had to speak on entrepreneurship for three to five minutes. Matt Flynn from Clarkson University received first place in this category, with Tom Volpe from SUNY New Paltz coming in second, Matthew Robert from SUNY Plattsburgh in third and Alex Johnson from Norwich University in fourth.

In the creativity and innovation team contest, each team had to create an inventive, feasible product for Adirondack Grilling Pellets. Clarkson University took first. St. Michael’s College took second, Norwich University third and SUNY Adirondack fourth. 

The Mug-of-War competition challenged participants to design a mug with a new concept, feature or usage. Krista Bennett of SUNY Adirondack won first place with Kevin Holloman from St. Michael’s College earning second; and Alex Johnson of Norwich University coming in third.

The judges of the marathon were Bob Parks, publisher of the Press-Republican; Dan Alexander, president and publisher of Denton Publications; Hannah Provost, manager of Glens Falls National Bank on U.S. Avenue; and Colleen Lemza, owner of Adirondack Grilling Pellets and assistant professor of public relations at SUNY Plattsburgh.
