Family Weekend Events Planned for SUNY Plattsburgh

SUNY Plattsburgh’s annual Family Weekend will be held Sept. 19-21 and features activities and events for the whole family.

The weekend will kick off with a welcome reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Winkel Sculpture Court in the Myers Fine Arts building. The reception will be co-hosted by President John Ettling and members of the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society.

“It is a nice opportunity to mix and mingle with various campus folks,” said Michael Cashman, assistant director for the Center for Student Involvement.

In the Spirit of Tradition

An old Plattsburgh Family Weekend tradition makes a comeback this year, as 176 Keys presents dueling pianos Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Angell College Center Ballrooms. This event is free of charge and includes a complimentary dessert buffet.

Family Weekend favorites like bingo, ice skating with Burghy, and the three-mile fun run provide fun environment for families to spend time with their student in the college surroundings.

A Time of Celebration and Exploration

On Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center, the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society will induct 49 students who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as freshman during the 2013-2014 school year. This ceremony is a new addition to Family Weekend, and all inductees, families and friends are invited.

The Center for Student Involvement will also introduce Family Weekend buttons this year. Available at no cost, this program encourages students and their families to explore the Adirondack Coast region while receiving discounts and/or promotions from participating businesses by displaying the button. Buttons and more information about the program, such as participating businesses, may be picked up during registration, which will be held Friday and Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Angell College Center.

Reserved tickets, directions to some local attractions, as well as some self-guided tour materials will also be available during that time.
