English Honor Society Presents Halloween Story Contest

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2008) - The members of SUNY Plattsburgh's English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, are proud to present the Halloween Spooky Story Contest.

The contest is open to all area middle school students. Stories must be no more than 1,000 words in length and should be submitted via e-mail to [email protected] no later than Wed., Oct. 17. Entrants should cut and paste their stories into the body of the e-mail rather than sending them as an attachment. Requests for more information may also be sent to the same e-mail address.

The authors of the top three stories will win gift cards from Borders: $20 for first place, $15 for second and $10 for third.

According to Ivan Wohner, co-president of the Sigma Tau Delta, the group is sponsoring the contest in order to encourage writing in area schools.

"What we are trying to do is help inspire young writers," said Wohner. "We feel there is tremendous talent out there and that this competition can give students the chance to use their imaginations through writing."

"This contest is meant to be a rewarding experience both for the three winners and for everyone who participates, because it is meant to be an exercise of the imagination," added Wohner. "This is a great chance (for SUNY Plattsburgh students) to give back to the local community."
