College, Community Members Rally to Support Student Victims of Fire
SUNY Plattsburgh students have planned a full slate of events to help peers displaced by a fire last week in an off-campus apartment.
Working through the college’s Center for Student Involvement and Project HELP, students have arranged the following fundraising efforts. All proceeds go to the Red Cross, which is coordinating aid to the displaced residents of 15 Couch St.
- Campus Express will sell street sign cut-outs featuring the Red Cross symbol. These will be posted in the convenience store, located in the Angell College Center.
- Students will host a coin drive from 6 to 7 p.m. this Thursday in the residence halls.
- Students will also table for donations in the Angell College Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday this week and Monday through Friday next week.
- The college’s Gospel Choir will donate all proceeds from this weekend’s “Taking It Back” concert, 7 p.m., Saturday, in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.
In addition, the Champlain Valley Quilters Guild of New York is offering a handmade quilt to each of the affected students.
Individuals wanting to contribute are encouraged to take part in these efforts or contact Project HELP at 518-564-4830 or the Red Cross at www.redcross.org, 1-800-RED-CROSS or 518-561-7280. Donations of money are most helpful.
