Campus Relay for Life to Benefit Cancer Society

SUNY Plattsburgh will host the fourth annual Relay For Life on March 26 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sponsored by the Colleges Against Cancer committee, this all-night event is a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, to remember loved ones lost, and to fight back against the disease.

Students, faculty/staff and the general public are encouraged to join by creating teams or simply donating to a cause that is working to save lives. All money raised will benefit the American Cancer Society and will help pay for research to find a cure and to help existing cancer patients through tests and treatments.

“In the past we have done really well,” said Dominique Witteck, the public relations chair for Relay. Last year the goal for the event was $35,000, and, exceeding expectations, the event raised $39,000.

This year’s goal is to raise $45,000.

“Relay for Life is always a fun event,” said Witteck. “And with this year’s Mardi Gras theme, we expect it to be better than ever.”

The event will include free food, drinks and fun games with the chance to win prizes. There will also be performances featuring Cloud 9, SUNY Plattsburgh’s Kickline and many more.

The cost to join is $20 per person. Those who raise an additional $50 will receive a free T-shirt. Registration is open until the day of the event. Anyone can get involved by signing up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lobby of the Angel College Center or by registering online at www.relayforlife.org/sunyplattsburgh.
