Campus Moves Into Further Conversations

A note to the campus community from President John Ettling:

As many of you know, two representatives from SUNY administration in Albany, Dr. Carlos Medina, vice chancellor and chief diversity officer; and Dr. Teresa Miller, chief of staff and senior vice chancellor for strategic initiatives, will be on campus Monday to meet with students in about nine group sessions. Details on times and options for students are in a note sent to you by Bryan Hartman.

I appreciate the willingness to bring their expertise and efforts to campus. Their perspective and system-wide knowledge will be very useful to us.

Friday saw continuing and understandable expressions of concerns on and off-campus. This included some discussed with me as I spent time with students in my home. In the evening, the campus community and I heard many more voices. This included resolutions, which will be voted on next week by the Student Association. These cover several aspects, including proposed changes in this administration. I understand the sentiment.

As we move into further conversations, change and addressing deeper problems at more comprehensive levels, it is important for the entire campus community to do this together, building bridges and acting from the heart. I care about each of you and will work to make sure each student is safe and valued. I ask you to join me in that effort.

John Ettling
President
