Advancing Our Efforts: Listen, Learn and Respect

A note to the campus community from President John Ettling:

Over the past several days, your campus leadership team has further developed the action steps I outlined last week. In many cases, this has taken the form of having initial conversations on and off campus, researching practices we may be able to put in place here, and taking steps toward putting together a Social Justice Task Force.

It remains my personal commitment to you that we improve our campus climate. As we have developed this further, the themes of listening, learning and respect have emerged.

We've created online pages where members inside and outside our community can track our work on the actions I described last week. Details regarding campus safety and respect are also available and may be particularly useful for parents and others viewing from a distance.

Both will be linked from the www.plattsburgh.edu homepage and shared more widely. Updates and documents will be posted here as well. A new format for the page will be developed as the college moves to a new website later this semester.

Diversity Week 2018 continues through Friday. The events were planned over months and include a range of gatherings, learning sessions and social events. It began with the Black Onyx Banquet, which I attended Saturday. It concludes with a community bonfire on Friday night.

I encourage you to participate. There is something for everybody.

John Ettling
President
