Accessibility, ADA Compliance Focus of Day-long Workshop, Training Session

The SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Instructional and Program Innovation, along with the Faculty Senate and Accessibility Resources Office, will host a day-long crash course on accessibility Monday, Jan. 12 beginning with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.
Accessibility is more than compliance. Organizers of Accessibility Day will help participants come away with an understanding that not every learner can access course materials in the same way. Some may need additional support that is vital to their ability to succeed.
The day’s lineup is geared to provide faculty and staff with the necessary knowledge and tools to develop and maintain course material for the spring 2026 semester and beyond.
The keynote address will be given by Rebbecca Oling, director of digital accessibility at SUNY Purchase followed by presentations in the Alumni Conference Room that include:
- Accessibility 101: 10:30-11 a.m.
- Accessible MS Documents — Word, Excel, PPT: 11-11:30 a.m.
- Accessible PDFs: 11:30-noon
- Accessible Yuja Video Content: Noon-12:30 p.m.
Following lunch from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, afternoon workshops include a hands-on mitigation clinic in the computer labs and ARO space, first floor of Feinberg Library, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There, participants will learn how to check documents and websites for accessibility.
Wrap-up and closing remarks will begin at 3:30 p.m. back in the ballrooms.
Accessibility Day is appropriate for anyone who creates, curates and delivers electronic documents to students and colleagues. Laptops are optional.
