The role of the Center for Instruction and Program Innovation is to provide a context
in which faculty can effectively explore opportunities for their development as teachers.
All evaluations of faculty teaching conducted through IPI are intended to be formative
in nature. Accordingly, it is IPI policy that faculty engagement with the center is
treated with a high degree of confidentiality. This includes participation in programs
and consultations, as well as related correspondence.
IPI does not report on individual faculty participation, nor does it provide evaluative
feedback about faculty members to any person, office, or committee. Information regarding
a faculty member’s engagement with IPI will be shared only at the request of that
faculty member, typically for inclusion in professional advancement materials.
As a unit within the Office of Academic Affairs, IPI may, when appropriate, provide
the provost with general updates on institutional initiatives, trends, faculty certifications
and progress related to teaching, learning and program development. In rare instances
where concerns arise that fall within institutional policies or responsibilities,
IPI may be obligated to consult with appropriate academic leadership. Such situations
are handled with discretion and with respect for faculty professionalism.
