'Yards for Yeardley' Event Planned for Memorial Hall Field April 19

The Plattsburgh State Student Athlete Advisory Committee will host the 2nd annual Yards for Yeardley Thursday, April 19 at the Memorial Hall field from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SUNY Plattsburgh’s event is being held in conjunction with SUNYAC and other SUNY schools around the state throughout the month of April.

Around the World for Yeardley is an event organized through the One Love Foundation. This foundation honors the memory of Yeardley Love, a former University of Virginia women’s lacrosse player, who was killed by her ex-boyfriend in 2010. The event’s purpose is to raise awareness of relationship violence and abuse, and to help create a movement to end that violence.

Donations are not sought, but rather, the event’s success is measured from the amount of yards that participants can walk, run or jog. Last spring, SUNYAC as a whole recorded more than 25 million yards. The goal this year is to get 50 million yards.

There will also be a raffle on site, including two tickets to a New York Jets game. Participants can earn raffle tickets for yards walked.

This event is free and open to the public.
