Yana Groves to Give Senior Piano Recital
SUNY Plattsburgh music student and pianist Yana Groves will present her senior piano recital April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
Groves will perform select piano works by Bach, Bartók, Chopin and Beethoven.
Groves is originally from Kharkiv, Ukraine, where she attended a special music school majoring in piano performance. She began her studies with Dr. Karen Becker at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2007.
Groves served as a rehearsal pianist for the Champlain Valley Voices and SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union and participated in many performances. She also served as music director for the production of “Honk” by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Plattsburgh, assistant music director to several SUNY Plattsburgh musical productions and accompanist for a number of student concerts. In 2011, she made her debut as a soloist with Manhattan Chamber Orchestra playing Mozart’s “Piano Concert K. 488.”
While at SUNY Plattsburgh, Groves received the Louise H. Heisler Music Scholarship. She will complete her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music in May 2012. Groves was recently accepted into the Master of Music Piano Performance program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she will continue her studies next year.
