Woo Eligible for Academic All-America Accolades for Third Year


TROY, N.Y. (May 10, 2010) -- SUNY Plattsburgh softball player Amy Woo has been chosen to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine College Division District I All-Academic First Team, becoming the first Cardinal in the program's history to be named to the first team three times. The senior second baseman now advances as the lone State University of New York Athletic Conference representative to the national ballot in consideration for Academic All-America honors, as that award will be announced May 26.

The team, voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America, encompasses Division II and III schools from New York, New England and five provinces in northeastern Canada.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Woo started all 41 games this season helping Plattsburgh to a 25-16 record and a No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament where the team lost to host Cortland in the championship game by a slim 1-0 margin. She hit .315, scored 30 runs, had 20 runs batted in and slammed three home runs. She also broke the school career hits record with 185.

In the classroom, she carries a 3.81 cumulative grade-point average and majors in Latin American studies with a Spanish minor.

Woo's extracurricular activities include All-Student Association Senator, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Vice President, NCAA Leadership Conference delegate and Activities Coordination Board.
