Winter Jazz Concert Features Rick Davies and the Latin Funk Thugtet
The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music will present a jazz concert at 7:30 on Friday, Dec. 5 in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus.
The concert features the SUNY Plattsburgh Jazz Ensemble directed by Herm Matlock, adjunct lecturer in music. Guest artists for the show will be the Latin Funk Thugtet led by Dr. Rick Davies, professor of music.
The Thugtet is a high-energy band specializing in Latin and funk music. The group consists of veteran players as well as younger musicians from the North Country and has been together for the past two years. Leader Rick Davies has composed and arranged most of the music they perform. They play various selections from Davies’ three internationally known CD recordings as well as a variety of cover songs. Many of the members of the group are graduates of SUNY Plattsburgh. The concert is free and open to the public.
