Winter Concert Scheduled


PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Champlain Valley Oratorio Society and the SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union will present a winter program of music by Leonard Berstein and Johannes Brahm on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. at the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church, 127 Beekman Street, Plattsburgh.

"Bells, Brahms and Berstein" will feature a wonderful selection of music that will appeal to the entire family. Joined by outstanding solo instrumentalists, the Oratorio Society will present the beautiful Chichester Psalms by Bernstein, accompanied by Michael Unger on the organ, Olga Gross on the harp and Daryle Redmond, percussion. Local alto soloist Christopher Kokes will sing the enchanting solo in the pastoral second movement, in which the text of Psalm 23 appeals for peace.

Brahms' charming love songs, Liebeslieder Waltzes , written for chorus and 4-hand piano, will be accompanied by SUNY Plattsburgh pianist Dr. Karen Becker and guest collaborative pianist Sonja Thompson.

The program will conclude with a traditional audience sing-along of Hallelujah Chorus , accompanied by the magnificent pipe organ of the United Methodist Church.

Tickets are $15 for general admission; $12 for senior citizens and non-SUNY Plattsburgh students; $5 for children 12 and under; and $2 SUNY Plattsburgh students. Tickets are available through CVOS members, the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts, Peacock Music or at the door. SUNY Plattsburgh student tickets are available only at the Angell College Center Information Desk until 5 p.m. on Dec. 9.
