Wind Ensemble to Present Two Concerts
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Jan. 26, 2010) -The Adirondack Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Daniel Gordon, will perform the first of two winter concerts Saturday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. A second concert will take place on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. Tickets at the door are $10 general admission and free for all students.
The program includes Lasse Eerola's "Suite for Wind Orchestra," Gordon Jacob's "Old
Wine in New Bottles," and Percy Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posy."
Composer John Williams' "Hymn to the Fallen," conducted by Lori Salimando-Porter,
a retired member of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point Band, pays tribute to
the armed forces. The featured soloist on the program is tuba player JoLee Yeddo,
who will perform in Arban's well-known piece "Carnival of Venice."
The Adirondack Wind Ensemble is a professional musical ensemble of wind and percussion
instrumentalists. The performers are largely music educators from the Plattsburgh
area. The group is dedicated to bringing the highest quality wind and percussion music
to the Adirondack region. This concert is co-presented with the SUNY Plattsburgh Department
of Music.
