William Circelli Named SUNY Plattsburgh Director of Facilities

William Circelli has been promoted to the position of director of facilities at SUNY Plattsburgh, a role he’s held in an interim capacity since December 2016 following the retirement of long-time director Kevin Roberts.

Circelli will be responsible for facilities planning, maintenance and operations, the warehouse, janitorial, facilities accounting, maintenance and operations trades, the moving crew, the garage, grounds, the central heating plant, environmental health and safety, and capital planning and construction.

He joined the business affairs division in 1992 as plant utilities assistant with the central heating plant. Promotions to plant utilities engineer 1 and 3, assistant director of facilities and acting facilities director followed over the years.

“I’m excited to take on this new role and face the challenges the position will bring forward,” Circelli said. “My immediate focus will be to continue building and grounds restoration, which includes new lighting and new signage, and work with colleagues to bring out new ideas to enhance the student experience on campus.”

John Homburger, vice president for administration who is set to retire at the end of June, praised Circelli. He said the new director had the unanimous support of the President’s Cabinet and the incoming vice president for administration, Josee Larouchelle.

“Bill’s competence and experience in handling facility planning and overall operations on campus will clearly be an asset,” Homburger said.

Roberts served the college from April 1978 through his December 2016 retirement, working his way up the ranks in facilities, maintenance and operations departments until being appointed director in September 2009.
