Waterbury Named Interim Athletic Director

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Chris Waterbury has been appointed interim director of athletics at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh effective Dec. 11.

Chris Waterbury Waterbury, the head men's soccer coach and assistant athletic director, will succeed Roy Patton who resigned as athletic director for personal reasons effective with the end of the fall semester Dec. 10.

Waterbury will serve as interim athletic director until a permanent director is officially appointed next spring. A search committee is being put together and should be named before the end of the semester. Albert Mihalek, assistant to the dean of arts and science, has been named the chair of the search committee.

"Chris Waterbury has been at SUNY Plattsburgh for many years. His experience as a coach in the athletic department will serve him well as he steps into the role of interim athletic director, and I am looking forward to working with him," said William Laundry, interim vice president for student affairs.

Waterbury just finished his 21st season as head men's soccer coach at Plattsburgh State and has directed the Cardinals to 17 straight winning seasons including five NCAA appearances, two ECAC Championships and four SUNYAC titles.

In his previous 20 seasons at Plattsburgh State, Waterbury notched a record of 269-90-33 and received his fifth SUNYAC Coach of the Year in 2003. His peers also honored him in 1990, '92, '98 and '99.

Prior to his present post, Waterbury was head coach at Lyndon State from 1983-84 and at New England College in 1982.

Waterbury's overall career collegiate coaching record stands at 291-109-41. He is No. 28 on the NCAA all-time victory list by percentage (.706) and No. 24 by victories among active coaches.

A 1981 graduate of SUNY Cortland, Waterbury earned a master's degree in education from University at Albany in 1985 and holds the Advanced National Coaching Diploma and the Premier Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
