Walsh Fills Role of Registrar, Director of Transfer Affairs
PLATTSBURGH, NY__ Michael Walsh, formerly the Director of Transfer Admissions at the
State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, has been named Registrar and
Director of Transfer Affairs.
"It's a good match for me professionally," said Walsh about his new position. "One
thing that attracted me to the position was all the good people who work in the Registrar's
Office. I wouldn't have come here if it weren't for the people. (Dr.) Bob Golden (provost
and vice president for Academic Affairs) has also been very supportive through this
process."
Walsh, who received his undergraduate degree and master's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1976 and 1987, respectively, started his career at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1978 as an admissions counselor. The next year, he became a transfer counselor. Then Walsh moved into the associate director of admissions position until he was named director of transfer admissions.
Dr. Raymond Domenico, who served as interim registrar, will return to his faculty position as professor of communication disorders and sciences, effective prior to the beginning of the academic year.
"I'd like to thank Dr. Domenico for his help during the transition period in the Registrar's Office," said Provost Golden. "In combining the Registrar with Transfer Affairs, we are recognizing the importance of transfer issues to the vitality of this institution. Mike Walsh has made a model of Plattsburgh in the SUNY system in transfer admissions."
With this position, Walsh will fulfill the traditional duties of the registrar while also working on transfer functions such as articulation agreements and transfer course equivalency tables.
"One of my goals is to create a place where faculty members can send students who have transfer issues," said Walsh. "I've always liked working with the transfer students. This is a good move for me."
